Order Treats Page is LIVE!

Months went by in a flash and so much has happened. There's so much to tell you and also a number of backlog blog posts to share. However, today I would like to announce some exciting news. After several years of procrastinating, I have decided to take a leap of faith and believe in myself to pursue what I love most doing. Which is to bake and make pretty looking treats and also to be able to share them with you in regards to what I currently offer. Alas the birth of ORDER TREATS page.

Here are some photos of what I have been working on the past weeks, months and there will be more to come. Do follow me on Instagram and Facebook Page on my latest musings and whereabouts.
A lot of you has given me tremendous support and having numerous query on what I offer, has driven me to sit down to think through my menu. Do note that my list will always be growing, where old flavours may be revised over time, and I will also be introducing SEASONAL flavours. Being a self proclaim foodie, there will be experimentation in the kitchen on new flavours. Who knows, you may have the first hand to savour some of my cakes?

So do stop by anytime and show me some cakery love. Every support and order given helps me to achieve my goal one step closer each time to attend new cake decorating classes to enhance or pick up a new skill, and at the end of day, becoming a professional cake decorator to continue to make you beautiful delectable tasty treats.

Classic Vanilla Bean Cake

It's birthday season, and with Christmas around the corner, there has just been so much on my mind to do. Lots and lots of treats to bake plus an entire long to-do list is in place. However, it sure feels like there isn't much time for me to check them off my list. Apart from trying to get myself back to food blogging full time, there has been 2 exciting projects that I am working on on the side too. I am certainly eager to share them with you here on my blog. More details to come on the next coming posts once everything has been finalized.

Moving along.. Recently, I had a chance to surprised one of my mother's very close schoolmate, with my very own baked treat. Since, I wasn't sure if anyone had any allergy, but was certain they were not allergic to wheat, I decided to serve them a CLASSIC VANILLA BEAN CAKE.

Dark Chocolate Cheesecake, Birthday & Where About!

Past 2 months has been filled with chaotic, and hectic schedule. Birthdays, family, friends and work were mainly my top priority. This time round, I'm aware that I have been away far more longer than usual. Despite, the lack of food blogging, I managed to squeeze in some weekends to bake, in away to distress and baking happened to be quite therapeutic.

I spent the last months, in a quiet space. A much needed time alone too. Very much like the upcoming photos. Serene, calm, chilly and slightly grey which helps to recollect myself and question what are/were my desires in life. Far from that, it drives and motivate myself to continue to persevere building my pathway to greener pastures. Ever so recently, everyday, has either been a blessing or a constant struggle to figure out, how to make that extra dough to stay afloat. The journey hasn't been pleasant either where I stumbled upon port holes one after another following by some bumpy rides. At the end, like the saying goes, if there's nothing good to say, it's best to not say anything.
All I could do right now, is pray that it gets better, brighter each day and hopefully my tiny baking hobby kicks off to an astounding level. Can I vent one last sad sappy news? My DSLR decided to die on me, leaving me with no better choice other than to use a point & shoot camera as a backup [kicks my foot...]. Such a bummer.. So some photos may be from a DSLR, and some are from my trusty regular digital camera. As they say, it's not the camera, and it's all about the skill. This is one area that I am constantly geared to improve. What I realize is that it depends a lot on how I feel that very day too. For instance, if I am in a mood for blurry and grey shots, my photos may turn out that way. Slightly crazy but I adore all forms of food-scenic photography. From vintage, to shabby chic to minimalism or just straight on focusing towards the object.

Moving on, last month was my wonderful loving DAD's 60th Birthday. As you may or may not know, my dad is a huge fan of cheesecake. His love for simple, nothing too frilly or over the top cheesecake this time would be a lusciously DARK CHOCOLATE CHEESECAKE. Fluffy creamy cream cheese flavoured with good quality semi-sweet melted chocolate is complimented with Oreo cookie base.
Thank god, I had some backup recipes and shots which I have not blogged about. Those my friends, will be heading your way real soon.

Got to love this line "Although, the vision is hazy, someday I shall be flying so high!" Can you guess? Can you tell where this line is taken from? Here's a hint.. from a music buff like myself, it's from a musical this time and I certainly live on this motto where it gives me drive, faith and defies any gravity that pulls me down ;).

Stay tune peeps...

Baking Recipe: Passion Swirl Cake (Yellow Buttercake + Passion Fruit White Chocolate Ganache + Lemon Italian Meringue Buttercream)

The past weeks has been hectic, and I know I have been missing in action, abandoning my poor blog. There has been some challenges at work, and I am sure I will get through it. However, I wouldn't want to bore you with my other daily life. Instead, this month is a really special month. Exactly one year ago, I introduced little Miss A aka Miss Buttons to all of you on my blog. If you recalled my Amanda's Pink Rainbow Cake, that's when I first introduced her to my blog. Can you imagine a year has gone by swiftly?

{Birthday Cake Project} A 'Summer Passion' Cake

** First stop.. don't forget, CHRISTMAS GIVEAWAY is still OPEN [<--click], so please help me to present the beautiful gift I selected for you foodies soonest possible. ;).

The past weekend was a busy weekend for me but a good weekend indeed. In fact it was a great weekend. I started celebrating my birthday on Thursday, where my colleagues gave surprised me with a Caramel Cheesecake, then on Friday {my actual Birthday}.. I had a wonderful breakfast with my best buddy, and then come Saturday evening my best buddy and the rest of the ladies took me out for dinner and then presented me with a Chocolate Ganache Cake called Four Seasons baked by another local blogger. What a sweet sweet weekend for me. I'll definitely try to post some shots of the lovely dinner we had.

me, myself & I making a really long wish
Apart from all the minor dining, I had my very first cake order to deliver which I hinted in my past posts. {Yeayyyyyyy!!} To be honest, I was filled with nerves as this cake that I'll be baking will be for my best buddy mom's birthday which happens to fall on 20th December. OMG.. talking about the chances of screwing up the recipe, the decoration etc.. There were 1001 things going through my head.

Luckily, my best buddy, Steph told me in advance. She gave me pretty much approx. 2 weeks notice and it's definitely a great head start for me. Coming up a with the cake flavour that I would think suit their taste buds was no different than coming up with a cake for my mom's 55th birthday., I knew they love citrus flavours. All I could think of was the island of Capri in Summer. That was my inspiration. To tie my whole cake together, the buttercream frosting and cake has to be white in colour, summer yellow curd and winter snow mascarpone cream and to decorate with lemon yellow pearls.

After much thought, the cake itself was a dense White Vanilla Poppy Seed Cake sandwiched with Lemon Curd and Light Whipped Mascarpone Cream and frosted with Limoncello Buttercream. I'm calling my cake Summer Passion Cake. What do you think?

Okay..you may think that there are lots of flavours but to my surprise it worked out really well. Firstly, I made a white vanilla cake and toss in poppy seeds. The sweetness of vanilla cake was balanced with tangy lemon curd and whipped mascarpone cream. Instead of using Limoncello Cream Cheese Frosting which I made previously, I've decided to change it to a buttercream with limoncello liqueur.

To decorate the cake..that was the tough part as I've never taken up any cake decorating class before. However, I did try my best to make it look as pretty I possibly can. I whipped up some royal icing and piped all sorts of sizes of pearls and left it out to dry. To bring out the lemon yellow I placed some fuchsia white chocolate pearls.

Summer Passion Cake
Most importantly, the end result is what counts. I've got a confirmation from my best buddy's mom that the cake is beautiful in and out. {Awww.. she's too kind.. brought tears to my eyes} So overall, the cake is DELISH and definitely worth having seconds or third helpings.

Happpppyyyy Buuuuurrrrrrffffddddaaayyyy Ms Fifi @ Mrs Lai

I called Ms Fifi today not knowing that it's 18 August 2010. Hmm.. no wonder I felt something a miss like I have left out something. Well, my dear buddy Fifi has moved to Melbourne for good.

So yes it's her BIRTHDAY today and it slipped off my mind when I called her.  Guilty as charged.. but unintentionally..as  I think I need to take in more ginko.

Well, I've wished her obviously.. but here's a token to our friendship. It's so weird, as we would always celebrate one another Birthday every year over a good meal...Hopefully, we could meet up soon eh Fi, and have a delicious meal together..

Okay..this is for you as promised over the phone. Lol... ;P

Many Happy Returns & Happy Birthday!!

Special Message to Ms Fi: Stay gorgeous as always. ;) *huggggiiieesss*
